Is Omez banned in India?

Omez is Dr. Reddy's omeprazole, the proton-pump inhibitor that made acidity treatment routine in India, and Omez-D adds domperidone for reflux with nausea. Neither is banned.

Omeprazole is on the National List of Essential Medicines and has never been the subject of a Section 26A notification. The only regulatory action involving it is the prohibition of omeprazole + dicyclomine, a combination of an acid reducer with an antispasmodic, in the 328-FDC notification of 7 September 2018. That combination was sold under other brand names and is not an Omez product. Omeprazole + domperidone, the Omez-D formula, was not in the 2018 wave, the 2024 list, or the April 2025 list of halted combinations, which concerned pantoprazole rather than omeprazole three-drug products.

The question tends to appear whenever a rival acidity brand is in the news. Pan-D's counterfeit batches in 2024 and 2025, the ranitidine NDMA review, the Pantop-D spurious finding in December 2025, and searchers check their own brand. Omez has not, in the 2024 to 2026 alerts we have reviewed, been named as spurious; generic omeprazole capsules from various makers do appear among not-of-standard-quality items from time to time, and those findings are batch-specific.

There is a real conversation to have about proton-pump inhibitors: long-term daily use has been linked to nutrient deficiencies and other effects, and doctors are asked to review it periodically. That is a prescribing matter, not a ban.
