Is Pantop banned in India?

Pantop is Aristo's pantoprazole brand, sold plain and as Pantop-D with domperidone. Neither is banned in India.

Pantoprazole is a proton-pump inhibitor on the National List of Essential Medicines and has never been the subject of a Section 26A notification. The two-drug pantoprazole + domperidone combination is likewise not banned; what the CDSCO halted on 11 April 2025 were three-drug versions adding levosulpiride or simethicone, licensed at state level without central approval.

The brand entered the news through the monthly quality alerts. The alert for December 2025, published on 21 January 2026, listed 167 samples not of standard quality and 7 spurious. Among the spurious samples was a Pantop-D batch, alongside three batches of Telma-AM, one of Telma 40, one of Montina-L and two of Chymoral Forte. "Spurious" in these alerts means the sample was not what its label claimed, typically a counterfeit carrying a real brand's name, and manufacturers routinely state that they did not make the batch. Generic pantoprazole tablets from various makers also appear among NSQ items in most months, because the drug is made in such volume.

None of this changes the status of Pantop. A patient with the product should compare the batch number on the strip with the one listed in the December 2025 alert; if it differs, the finding does not concern it. Buying from a licensed pharmacy with a bill is the best protection against counterfeits.
