Saridon is legally on sale in India as of 19 Sep 2026: the 7 Sep 2018 ban (S.O. 4689(E)) was put on hold by Supreme Court interim relief in February 2019 and the matter remains sub judice.

Saridon is the best-known example of a medicine that was banned in India and then returned to shelves by court order, which is why "is Saridon banned" keeps being searched years later.
The combination, paracetamol with propyphenazone and caffeine, was first caught in the March 2016 ban on 344 FDCs. That wave was quashed by the Delhi High Court in December 2016. The Supreme Court, in December 2017, asked the Drugs Technical Advisory Board to look again, and on 7 September 2018 the Health Ministry re-banned 328 combinations, including Saridon under S.O. 4689(E).
Piramal, the manufacturer, challenged the 2018 order in the Supreme Court. In February 2019 a bench of Justices R.F. Nariman and Indu Malhotra granted interim relief to Saridon, Piriton expectorant and Dart, allowing them to be sold while the petitions are heard. Sources differ on whether the order was passed on 11, 14 or 21 February 2019, so the date is flagged for verification.
As of 19 September 2026 the matter has not been finally decided, and Saridon remains on sale on the strength of the interim order. The 2018 notification has not been withdrawn. This page will change if the Supreme Court rules either way.
