Between June and August 2026 FSSAI issued notices to more than twenty food brands over '100%', 'healthy', 'zero maida', 'fresh' and similar claims; no product was banned or recalled, and by 16 Aug 2026 six companies had rectified labels.

The summer of 2026 saw FSSAI's most sustained use of the Advertising and Claims Regulations, 2018 since they were notified. The regulations require that any nutrition or health claim be substantiated and that brand names not imply qualities the product does not have. FSSAI applied that rule to brand names containing 'healthy', to '100%' and 'zero maida' claims, to 'fresh' on packaged paneer, and to vegetarian and milk-solids claims on confectionery.

The notices came in waves. On 14 Jun 2026 Business Standard reported eight: Emami's Healthy & Tasty oils, Plan B, The Healthy Factory, Neuherbs, Troovy, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice and Health Aid. On 19 Jun notices went to MasterChow, Pluckk and Raw Pressery, and during June to Ferrero (Kinder Joy) and Marico (Saffola Total Heart Pro). On 6 Jul FSSAI announced notices to three more firms: Heritage Foods over 'Fresh' on packaged paneer, Dia Foods over 'All Natural', '100% organic' and 'Vegan' on its La Casa vegan hazelnut chocolate spread, and Cipzer over 'FSSAI Approved' and immunity claims on juice capsules. On 8 Jul show-cause notices followed to Lotte India, Ferns N Petals and Kubera Foods. Two Brothers Organic Farms, Organic Wisdom and Storia were notified over 'organic' and '100%' claims, with Storia also fined by the Central Consumer Protection Authority.

Compliance was quick in many cases. Pluckk added 'contains naturally occurring sugar'; Heritage Foods dropped 'Fresh'; MasterChow removed '100%'; Juza Foods discontinued its claims; The Whole Truth, whose 2023 complaint predates the wave, now labels its chocolate 'Sweetened with Dates'. On 16 Aug 2026 FSSAI named six further companies that had rectified claims or trademarks.

Nothing in this list is a ban. The only order to go beyond a notice, the August 2026 halt of sale for seven Dabur products, was stayed by the Delhi High Court on 7 Aug 2026.

What this means for you

Labels change, products stay

A notice under the claims regulations asks the company to justify or remove wording. None of these products was withdrawn.

Watch for quiet relabels

Several brands changed packaging within weeks. Old and new packs may sit side by side.

The one halt-of-sale order was stayed

Dabur's August 2026 order is the only instance of FSSAI moving beyond a notice, and the Delhi High Court stayed it within days.
