Where the claim comes from
The claim spread in July 2026 when FSSAI's 3 Jul order removing the words 'energy drink' from labels was reported as a 'ban', and Rajasthan's 11 Jul prohibition on eight brands was reported without the word 'Rajasthan'. Punjab's 2025 school-zone directive and Maharashtra's July 2026 restriction on Sting added to the confusion.
Two things happened in July 2026, and the 'Red Bull banned' claim comes from running them together. On 3 Jul 2026 FSSAI ordered every caffeinated beverage to drop the words 'energy drink', adopt the descriptor 'Caffeinated beverage', keep caffeine within 145 to 300 mg per litre and print warnings, with a deadline of 29 Sep 2026 that the regulator has refused to extend. That is a labelling order; it does not stop sale anywhere.
On 11 Jul 2026 Rajasthan prohibited the sale, storage and promotion of eight energy-drink brands in the state, Red Bull among them, and reported seizing more than five lakh units. That is a real prohibition, but a state one: it does not apply in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or anywhere outside Rajasthan. The reported brand list has not been confirmed against the order and is flagged.
Searches asking about Maharashtra, Gujarat and Jaipur have different answers. Maharashtra's July 2026 school-zone restriction concerned Sting, not Red Bull. Jaipur is in Rajasthan and the state order applies there. No Gujarat order has been located.
Red Bull has no recall, test failure or licence action on record in India.
