Is there an FSSAI banned products list PDF?

The document people search for does not exist. FSSAI does not maintain a consolidated register of banned products, brands or foods, and it has never published a 'banned list' PDF. What exists instead is a set of legal instruments that each prohibit or restrict something specific, plus databases of actions against individual businesses.

Substances and practices are prohibited in the regulations. The Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations, 2011 define which additives and colours are permitted, anything not listed, such as potassium bromate since 2016 or dyes like Rhodamine B and metanil yellow, is by that fact not allowed. The Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales Regulations, 2011 ban practices such as ripening fruit with calcium carbide and contaminants such as argemone oil in mustard oil. Contaminant limits set maximum levels for metals, aflatoxins and residues.

Brands are almost never banned. Actions against brands take the form of notices under the Advertising and Claims Regulations, batch recalls recorded on the FoSCoS portal, licence suspensions of specific premises, or facility-specific prohibition orders such as those on flavoured spirits in August 2026. The few order-level bans of 2025 to 2026, 'ORS' in beverage names, Rajasthan's energy-drink prohibition, are narrow and are recorded on their own pages here.

Import prohibitions sit with other agencies: plant quarantine for Chinese garlic, FSSAI's own import orders for Chinese dairy and, in 2018, four specialty medical foods.
