Haldiram's: FSSAI record

Haldiram's is one of India's largest packaged snack and sweets brands. No FSSAI notice, recall, licence action or failed sample against the brand is on record for 2024 to 2026, and it was not named in FSSAI's June to August 2026 claims notices.

Two state-level episodes in February 2026 are worth recording. On 17 Feb 2026 customers at Haldiram's Attapur outlet in Hyderabad complained that packaged items lacked manufacture and expiry details and that some were past their date; a complaint went to food safety officials. In the last days of February, ahead of Holi, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration raided a storage in Mohibullapur, Lucknow, operated by S.R. Sales and described in reports as Haldiram's storage. Officers destroyed about 112 kg of expired sonpapdi and rajbhog on the spot and collected samples for testing as part of a wider drive that also seized more than 10,000 kg of suspect spices and khoya elsewhere in the city. Any penalty was to depend on lab results, which have not been published.

The older story is the United States. Between September 2014 and early 2018 the US FDA refused Haldiram's shipments 86 times, mostly labelling products 'filthy' or flagging pesticide residues, and on 6 Jul 2017 it sent the Noida plant a warning letter about process records for canned Dal Makhni and Rajma Raseela. Haldiram's said its products complied with Indian law and that some pesticides permitted in India are not permitted in the US. When those refusals made news in July 2015, Maharashtra ordered its FDA to test the products; 35 samples from Nagpur and Mumbai passed, with lead well under the Indian limit.

Haldiram's is not banned, not recalled and not under any FSSAI order in India as of 20 Sep 2026.
