Amway's Nutrilite All Plant Protein Powder was one of 36 products in the Citizens Protein Project 1, a self-funded study by a group of clinicians and citizens published in Medicine in April 2024. The study reported aflatoxin in the sample above the permitted limit; the measured figure and the limit applied are to be quoted from the paper before publication. Amway disputed the result. The company's statement has been reported in the press but its wording and source are still to be confirmed for this record.
Aflatoxins are toxins produced by moulds on crops such as groundnut and soya, and their presence in a plant-protein powder points to raw-material quality in that lot. Because contamination varies between batches, a single positive sample is a signal rather than a description of the product line.
No FSSAI recall, prohibition or notice against Amway India is on record, and Nutrilite products remain on sale through the company's direct-selling network. Amway was not included in the 2025 second round of the project.
