Red Bull is the brand most searched with the word 'banned', and the answer depends on where you are standing. Nationally, FSSAI's order of 3 Jul 2026 does not prohibit the drink. It removes the term 'energy drink' from labels, requires the product to be sold as a 'Caffeinated beverage', fixes caffeine at 145 to 300 mg per litre under regulation 2.10.6, and mandates warning statements. Companies were given 90 days; on 8 Aug 2026 FSSAI said it would not extend the 29 Sep 2026 deadline, and trade press reported manufacturers calling the window too short.

Rajasthan went further. On 11 Jul 2026 the state prohibited the sale, storage and promotion of eight energy-drink brands, Red Bull among them, citing misleading claims, and reported seizing more than five lakh units. The published list has not been confirmed against the state order and includes at least one doubtful name, so it is flagged for verification. Punjab, since 26 Apr 2025, bars sale to minors and near schools without naming brands.

No recall, safety test failure or licence action against Red Bull is on record.

What this means for you

Labels are changing, not availability

The national order is about names, caffeine declarations and warnings. It does not withdraw the drink from shops outside Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is the exception

Rajasthan issued a state-level prohibition on 11 Jul 2026. If you are in Rajasthan, expect the product to be off shelves while that order stands.

Check the caffeine line

From the compliance date, the can should say 'Caffeinated beverage' and state caffeine per litre. Older-label stock may still be in circulation.
