Nestlé India's regulatory record is dominated by one historic event and a series of smaller episodes. The historic event is the 2015 Maggi withdrawal, when FSSAI ordered the noodles off shelves after state laboratories reported lead above the permitted limit and undeclared monosodium glutamate. Around 27,000 tonnes were destroyed. The Bombay High Court set the order aside later that year, fresh tests passed, and Maggi returned in November 2015. That episode still drives 'is Maggi banned' searches; the answer has been no for a decade.
In April 2024 a Public Eye and IBFAN report said Cerelac sold in India contained added sugar. The Central Consumer Protection Authority asked FSSAI to examine the product; Nestlé said its sugar levels were within Indian limits and launched no-added-sugar variants late in 2024. The outcome of the FSSAI examination has not been published.
In June 2026 FSSAI issued a notice after a social-media complaint alleging insect infestation in Maggi; Nestlé released laboratory results the next day reporting no safety violation. Nestlé India has also stated that batches in the company's 2026 global infant-formula withdrawal were not imported or sold in India. No FoSCoS recall against Nestlé India has been reported in 2024 to 2026.

A notice is a question, not a finding
The June 2026 Maggi notice asked Nestlé to respond to a complaint. No adverse test result from FSSAI has been reported.
Infant formula withdrawal does not touch India
Nestlé India's statement says the withdrawn batches were never imported. If you have a tin, check the batch against Nestlé's global list rather than assuming.
Cerelac is reformulated, not withdrawn
The 2024 issue was added sugar, which is legal within limits. No-added-sugar variants are now sold alongside the originals.
