On 3 Oct 2026 FSSAI said that a sample of Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener, collected from Bharat Hotels Ltd, which runs The Lalit in New Delhi, had been declared unsafe and sub-standard by a food analyst. It directed an immediate prohibition on the sale of the product by that business and sent the report to Nestlé and the hotel, either of which may appeal.

Nestlé said the product is safe and complies with the law, and that FSSAI's laboratory measured total phosphorus, including the phosphorus present naturally in milk, against a limit intended for added phosphorus. No batch number has been published, and FSSAI has not ordered a recall.

The finding came two weeks after FSSAI began adjudication proceedings against Nestlé India over claims on its NAN Excella Pro and Lactogen infant formulas, recorded on the Nestlé India page.

What this means for you

Not a recall

The direction stops one business from selling the sampled stock. No recall of the product has been announced.

The result can still change

Under the Food Safety and Standards Act the company can appeal and ask for the retained sample to be retested at a referral laboratory.

This is a record of official orders, not medical advice. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor or pharmacist.
