Where the claim comes from

Telma is the most counterfeited prescription brand in India. Between September 2022 and January 2026 CDSCO alerts and state raids named fake Telma-H, Telma 40 and Telma-AM at least six times, each time with Glenmark stating that it had not made the batch. Every such headline reads, to a patient, like 'Telma banned'.

Telma-AM combines telmisartan with amlodipine, two blood-pressure drugs, in one tablet. It is Glenmark's product, it is widely prescribed, and it is not banned. Telmisartan + amlodipine is an approved combination that appears in no ban notification.

It is, however, the single most flagged brand in recent CDSCO alerts. The alert for October 2025 listed Telma-AM batch 05241217A among five batches of well-known brands considered potentially spurious, alongside Azithral 500, Noophin and two Chymoral Forte batches; Glenmark said it had not manufactured the batch. The alert for December 2025, published on 21 January 2026, declared seven samples spurious, and three of them were Telma-AM batches, with a Telma 40 batch making a fourth from the same family. The pattern fits what Himachal Pradesh inspectors found in 2022, when a Baddi unit was caught making fake Telma-H under Glenmark's label: the brand is copied because it sells.

A spurious finding in these alerts means the sample was not what its label claimed. In Telma-AM's case that means someone else made the tablets, and there is no way to know from the outside what, if anything, they contain. That is a reason to buy from a licensed pharmacy, keep the bill and compare the batch number with the alerts, and a reason not to trust a strip bought informally because it looks right.

It is not a reason to stop a blood-pressure medicine. The licence is unchanged; a doctor can confirm the treatment and a pharmacist can check the pack.
