Where the claim comes from
The Aug 2024 ban list included 'aceclofenac 50 mg + paracetamol 125 mg tablets' and the matching oral liquid. News lists rendered this as 'aceclofenac + paracetamol banned', and since Zerodol-P is the best-known aceclofenac + paracetamol brand, the adult product was assumed to be covered.
Zerodol-P is Ipca's brand of aceclofenac with paracetamol, and the adult tablet is one of the most prescribed painkillers in India. It is not banned. The confusion comes from a specific strength.
On 2 August 2024 the Health Ministry prohibited 156 fixed-dose combinations under Section 26A, with the notifications published in the Gazette on 21 to 22 August. Among them is aceclofenac 50 mg + paracetamol 125 mg, in both tablet and oral-liquid form. Those are paediatric strengths, sold under various "junior" and syrup labels. The reasoning, as in the rest of the list, was that the expert committee found no therapeutic justification and some risk from the combination.
The adult tablet of aceclofenac 100 mg + paracetamol 325 mg was not in the notification and is still licensed. News lists of the 156 combinations generally collapsed the entry to "aceclofenac + paracetamol", which is how the adult brand came to be searched as banned.
Each entry in the 2024 wave has its own S.O. number in the range 3285(E) to 3440(E). The number for the paediatric aceclofenac entry should be taken from the CDSCO PDF, which we link below, rather than from news numbering that merges rows.
