In the second week of June 2026 FSSAI sent separate notices to KFC India, Nestle India and Flipkart after taking suo motu cognisance of complaints posted on social media. For KFC the complaint was a video said to show unhygienic conditions at the outlet in MVR Mall, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, which is operated by Devyani International, the master franchisee for KFC, Pizza Hut and Costa Coffee in India.

According to Business Upturn, FSSAI sought a detailed action taken report covering hygiene, sanitation, food handling, storage, waste management, pest control and employee practices, and the corrective steps taken. Time Out's August round-up of FSSAI actions described the deficiencies as waste management, pest control, sanitation and employee hygiene. The notices to Nestle (a Maggi packet complaint the company disputed) and Flipkart (insects in a Flipkart Minutes delivery) went out at the same time.

No suspension, seizure or prohibition followed for KFC as far as the public record shows, and the company's reply has not been published. Separately, in August 2026 the Maharashtra FDA inspected KFC outlets as part of its chain-restaurant drive; the suspensions from that drive fell on Domino's, Pizza Hut and McDonald's outlets, not KFC.
