On 10 Dec 2024 police from Sector 63 station in Noida, with a team from the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration, raided a unit in Block G, Sector 63 that was making and packing counterfeit food supplements. The raid followed a complaint from a 29-year-old buyer who reported liver infection and skin problems after using protein powder bought online.
Officers seized 33 boxes of adulterated protein powder, 2,050 small boxes of capsules, 5,500 empty boxes and the packing and printing machines. The value of the seizure was put at about Rs 50 lakh. Police said the gang sold its products through online platforms under two brand names, which were not disclosed in the reports. Three people were arrested and an FIR was registered for cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Two days later the district food department said it would inspect other units in Gautam Buddh Nagar for adulteration of protein powder. Results of those inspections, laboratory findings on the seized powder and the outcome of the case are not in the public record held here.
The Noida case is the earliest of the recent Indian counterfeit-protein busts and is dated 2024, before the 2025 to 2026 window covered by the other pages in this series. It is included because it set the pattern: a small unit, cheap filler, borrowed branding, online sales.
