The Bureau of Indian Standards published a public alert for a recall of packaged drinking water sold under the Mirale and Marle brand, manufactured by G K S Aqua Food Industry India, Sarugani, Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, under BIS licence CM/L 4512552 for IS 14543:2016. The order is dated 9 Jun 2022. The order names the non-conforming parameter as Sulphite-reducing anaerobes; aerobic microbial count at 20 to 22 C and at 37 C; yeast and mould (clause 5.2.4, 5.2.6, 5.2.7 of the standard). The alert covers lot 09, 1 L PET bottles, manufacturing date 09-05-2022.
BIS issues such alerts when a sample drawn under its certification scheme fails one or more requirements of the Indian Standard, and it directs the licensee to withdraw the affected lot and inform the public.
