The Bureau of Indian Standards published a public alert for a recall of packaged drinking water sold under the Kuzhal Aqua brand, manufactured by Mathi Beverages and Water Firm, Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, under BIS licence 6100046180 for IS 14543:2016. The order is dated 20 Mar 2023. The order names the non-conforming parameter as Yeast and mould (clause 5.2.4 and 5.2.7 of the standard). The alert covers 1 L PET bottles, manufacturing date 04-01-2023.
BIS issues such alerts when a sample drawn under its certification scheme fails one or more requirements of the Indian Standard, and it directs the licensee to withdraw the affected lot and inform the public.
