The Bureau of Indian Standards published a public alert for a recall of skimmed milk powder sold under the Calpro Specialities brand, manufactured by Calpro Specialities Private Limited, Kosi Kalan, Uttar Pradesh, under BIS licence 8700113611 for IS 13334 (Part 1):2014. The order is dated 1 Aug 2023. The order names the non-conforming parameter as Spore count, anaerobic (sulfite-reducing Clostridia); milk fat; titratable acidity (lactic acid) (clause 5.6 of the standard). What a BIS recall is
BIS certifies products against Indian Standards under the ISI mark. When a factory or market sample fails the standard, BIS directs the licensee to recall the affected lot and publishes a public alert.
Spore counts in milk powder
IS 13334 sets microbiological limits including spore-forming bacteria such as Bacillus cereus and sulfite-reducing Clostridia. Powder that fails them can spoil or cause food poisoning once reconstituted, especially if kept warm.
