The Bureau of Indian Standards published a public alert for a recall of packaged drinking water sold under the ARC Aqua Puraa and Aqua Puraa brand, manufactured by Annamalayar Agencies Pvt. Ltd, Palani, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, under BIS licence CM/L 6439982 for IS 14543:2016. The order is dated 17 Feb 2022. The order names the non-conforming parameter as Bromates (as BrO3), Table 2 of IS 14543 (clause 5.3 of the standard). The alert covers lot 939, manufacturing date 24-11-2022.
The BIS web table gives the order date as 17-02-2022 and the manufacturing date as 24-11-2022; the order PDF reads 17 02 2023, so the web date is most likely a typo for 2023 (being verified)
A BIS recall is separate from FSSAI's recall system. It does not, on its own, indicate an FSSAI licence suspension or prohibition, and it applies only to the lot named in the order.

What a BIS recall is
BIS certifies products against Indian Standards under the ISI mark. When a factory or market sample fails the standard, BIS directs the licensee to recall the affected lot and publishes a public alert.
Bromate is a treatment by-product
Bromate forms when ozone disinfection reacts with bromide in the source water. IS 14543 caps it because long-term exposure is a cancer concern. It is a process failure at the plant, not contamination after bottling.

Only the lot named in the order is recalled: 939. Other lots of the same brand are not covered by this alert.
It is not an FSSAI action
BIS recalls run under the BIS Act, 2016, separately from FSSAI's FoSCoS recall system. A BIS alert does not by itself mean an FSSAI licence action.
