Where the claim comes from

Headlines in April 2024 said Patanjali licences were 'revoked' after Uttarakhand suspended 14 products, and the Supreme Court hearings of 2022 to 2025 were widely reported as action against the brand. A suspension of named products is not a ban on the brand.

Nothing made by Patanjali Ayurved or Divya Pharmacy is banned nationally. Four separate matters are often reported as bans: a 2024 licence suspension in Uttarakhand, a Supreme Court case on misleading advertising that ran from 2022 to 2025, a 2026 seizure of Divya Pharmacy products in Maharashtra, and one failed lab test. None of them is a ban on the brand.

On 15 Apr 2024 the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority (Ayurveda and Unani) suspended the manufacturing licences of 14 products of Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved under Rule 159(1), for repeated misleading advertising. The products were Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, BP Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, Eyegrit Gold and Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop. Patanjali told the Supreme Court on 9 Jul 2024 that it had stopped selling them and had told 5,606 franchise stores to withdraw them. Business Standard reported on 31 Jul 2024 that the state had cancelled the suspension order on 1 Jul 2024 after a committee report, with a fresh decision pending, and that at the hearing of 30 Jul 2024 the court asked Uttarakhand to decide the matter and report in two weeks. No later order is on public record. One April 2024 headline said the licences were revoked; the body of that report said suspended.

The Supreme Court case is Indian Medical Association v Union of India, W.P.(C) 645/2022. Contempt proceedings against Ramdev and Balkrishna over misleading advertisements were closed after apologies in Aug 2024. On 11 Aug 2025 a bench of Justices Nagarathna and Viswanathan vacated its stay on the omission of Rule 170 and disposed of the petition, leaving parties free to challenge the omission separately. A criminal case over the advertisements was reported to have been quashed by the High Court at Nainital in Jun 2025.

In Jun 2026 Maharashtra FDA seized about Rs 51 lakh of Divya Pharmacy products (Drushti Eye Drop, Giloy Ghan Vati, Kutaj Ghan Vati, Cystogrit Diamond and Neurogrit Gold) for 'miraculous cure' claims under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. Patanjali moved the Bombay High Court and the state told the court it would take no coercive action for the time being. Separately, Maharashtra FDA's table of products that failed state lab tests lists one Divya Pharmacy product, Arjuna Kwath, for microbial limit. That is one finding, not a finding about the brand. Food products fall under food law and are not covered on this page.

What this means for you

Suspended is not banned

A licence suspension stops manufacture of the named products while it stands. The 2024 suspension covered 14 products and was cancelled by the state on 1 Jul 2024 (reported). No later order is on public record.

A seizure is not a ban

The Jun 2026 Maharashtra seizures were made under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, which governs advertising claims. They are before the Bombay High Court, and the state said it would take no coercive action for the time being.
