Where the claim comes from
The Jul 2026 circular on phenolphthalein combinations was widely shared as a homoeopathy ban. It is not one.
Homoeopathy is not banned in India. Homoeopathic medicines are licensed as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and no order restricts the system or its medicines as a whole.
The one 2026 action is narrow. In a circular dated 6 Jul 2026, 'Manufacturing and marketing of Homoeopathic medicines containing Phenolphthalein', the Drugs Controller General of India said combinations containing phenolphthalein do not meet the definition of a homoeopathic medicine in Rule 2(dd) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, and told state drug controllers to stop their manufacture and sale.
The circular names no brand in the text we read. Searches that pair homeopathy with Germany or Europe refer to other countries' rules, for which we have no source.
