Respifresh TR (also written Respi Fresh) is a cough syrup labelled as made by Rednex Pharmaceuticals, Ahmedabad, that tested positive for diethylene glycol during the October 2025 investigation into child deaths. It was named with Coldrif and ReLife in WHO Medical Product Alert N°5/2025 on 13 October 2025. Gujarat suspended production at Rednex, Telangana's Drugs Control Administration issued a public alert, and Maharashtra's FDA issued a prohibition order covering DEG-contaminated syrups. On 23 January 2026 Puducherry banned the sale of Respi Fresh (Rednex) and Respifresh-TR, which its order attributed to Edkem Pharmaceuticals, along with Medikof-D, as not of standard quality.

Current status

Recalled; production at Rednex suspended by Gujarat; banned in Puducherry and covered by other state prohibition orders as of 19 Sep 2026. No deaths have been publicly attributed specifically to this syrup in our sources.

Do not use Respifresh TR or Respi Fresh of any batch; return bottles to the pharmacy.

Step 2

Watch a child who has taken it for reduced urine output, vomiting or lethargy and seek care at once if these appear.

Step 3

Do not give cough syrups to children under two.
