Scope. A record here does not by itself mean a product or company is unsafe or banned today. Regulatory actions can apply to one batch, one formulation, one period or one state. Always check the linked government document for the current position, and tell us if something is out of date. How we label records.

Why people ask
The 2025 to 2026 mercury alerts on lipsticks and creams from other makers; Lakme is the most-searched Indian makeup brand

Lakme is Hindustan Unilever's makeup and skincare brand and the largest Indian cosmetics name by searches. We found no Lakme product in CDSCO's monthly 'not of standard quality' alerts from January 2019 to August 2026, and no public notice or import cancellation concerning it. The lipsticks that failed mercury tests in Kerala in 2025 were from Blue Heaven and two Chinese importers, not Lakme.

No record means no regulator action. It is not a statement about every batch of every product.

What this means for you

What 'no record' means

No CDSCO alert, failed state lab test, import cancellation or court case names the brand in the records we read. It does not certify that every product is safe; it says no regulator has acted.

One batch, not the brand

A failed lab test names a batch number and the lab that tested it. It does not mean every pack of that product is affected. Check the batch on your pack against the one in the record.

This is a record of official orders, not medical advice. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor or pharmacist.

Common questions

Did any Lakme lipstick fail a mercury test?

Not in CDSCO's alerts to August 2026. The 2025 lipstick failures were Blue Heaven and two imported brands.
