N°6/2023: Substandard (contaminated) syrup medicine: Cold Out syrup, Iraq

On 7 August 2023 the WHO warned of a batch of Cold Out syrup, a paracetamol and chlorpheniramine cold remedy, identified in Iraq and found on analysis to contain diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol above acceptable limits. The product was labelled as manufactured by Fourrts (India) Laboratories for Dabilife Pharma, both of India. The alert asked regulators to increase surveillance and to report any detection of the batch. No adverse events were reported in the alert.
