Key facts
- What was cancelled
- 27 registration certificates and import registration numbers covering 50 products
- Why
- Product labels did not match the approved labels (Rule 15(3)); misleading presentation (Rule 36); firm not found at the registered premises; powers under Rule 16
- Who
- Kult App Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, an e-commerce beauty importer carrying Korean and other foreign brands
- Effect
- The products lose their lawful import status; a consumer cannot tell from the pack which registration it was imported under
Kult App Pvt Ltd is a Mumbai e-commerce company that imported foreign skincare and makeup for sale through its app. CDSCO's cosmetics division, acting as the Central Licensing Authority, cancelled 27 of its import registration certificates and import registration numbers on 6 Feb 2026. The order records two grounds: the labels on 50 imported products differed from the labels approved at registration, and when inspectors visited the registered address the firm was not there.
The rules cited are 15(3), which requires imports to carry the approved label, 36, which prohibits misleading presentation, and 16, which gives the authority the power to cancel. The cancellation is of the registrations, not of the brands: another importer with its own valid registration can still bring the same products in. Stock already imported under the cancelled registrations has lost its lawful status, which is the practical reason the order was published.
This is the largest cosmetics import cancellation on CDSCO's public notices to date. A second, against Skintl Enterprises of Delhi in August 2026, followed the same pattern of online sellers importing products whose packs do not match what the regulator approved.
What this means for you
A registration is per product, per importer
The brands themselves are not banned. Another importer with a valid registration for the same product can still bring it in lawfully.
Why labels matter
The label approved at registration is what CDSCO checked: ingredients, claims, warnings. A different label on the shelf means the checked product and the sold product may not be the same.
How to check an import
A lawfully imported cosmetic carries the importer's name and the CDSCO registration number. No number, no registration.
This is a record of official orders, not medical advice. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor or pharmacist.
Common questions
Are Korean skincare products banned in India?
No. Imported cosmetics need a CDSCO registration. This order cancelled one importer's registrations for 50 products because the labels did not match; the brands can be imported by others with valid registrations.
