On 4 Oct 2026 FSSAI directed Everest Food Products to recall a batch of its pre-packed cumin powder. A regulatory sample, drawn at a resort in Goa, was found to contain residues of azoxystrobin, a fungicide, and thiamethoxam, an insecticide, above the maximum residue limits in the Contaminants, Toxins and Residues Regulations. The food analyst declared it unsafe, and a referral laboratory upheld that finding on appeal.
The direction requires Everest to recall the batch immediately, keep records of the recall and send FSSAI status reports, as the Food Recall Procedure Regulations, 2017 provide. Business Today gives the batch as E080668761; other reports carry no batch number, and FSSAI's order has not been published. No statement from the company had been reported by 8 Oct 2026.
This is a batch recall, not a ban on the brand. It is unrelated to the 2024 ethylene oxide episode, in which Singapore and Hong Kong withdrew Everest Fish Curry Masala and FSSAI's own tests in India found none.
What this means for you
Check the batch, not the brand
The direction covers one batch of cumin powder. Other batches and other Everest spices are not part of it.
If you have that batch
Stop using it and return it to the shop or contact the company. The batch number is printed on the pack near the dates.
Not the 2024 story
In 2024 Singapore and Hong Kong recalled Everest Fish Curry Masala over ethylene oxide, and FSSAI found none in Indian samples. This 2026 recall is a different product and a different finding.
This is a record of official orders, not medical advice. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor or pharmacist.
